Where: Adele & Haig Der Manuelian galleries, 3rd floor
Cost: $15, Members receive a 20% discount: $12
Taught by Armenian artist Marsha Nouritza Odabashian, this workshop explores the traditional Armenian Easter practice of decorating eggs using onion skin dye techniques. All ages are welcome so just show up ready to share in this beautiful Armenian tradition.
The natural process of boiling onion skins produces a magical red dye, which gives an amazing range of various shades of red and brown. Herbs and flowers are placed on the shell to resist the dye to form enchanting patterns.
DID YOU KNOW….
For Christians, the Easter egg is symbolic of the resurrection of Christ. The red color symbolizes the Blood of Christ while the hard shell of the egg represents the sealed Tomb of Christ. Armenian tradition includes egg fights where finished eggs are cracked against each other. The breaking of the shell is said to represent Jesus’ resurrection from the dead. Breaking shells is optional though so you may choose to keep your eggs intact!
Don’t miss out on this fun, educational activity and the chance to have the best Easter eggs at your Easter celebration!
